Radon Testing

Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers. 40% of MN homes have dangerous levels. The only way to know is to test. We provide a Minnesota Department of Health-certified two-day radon test with instant results. Our test costs $150.

A Quick Primer On Radon

Understanding Radon in Homes

What is radon?

Radon is a naturally occurring chemical element and radioactive gas that is odorless, colorless, tasteless, and completely imperceptible to humans. It forms as part of the natural decay chain of uranium, which is present in varying amounts in rocks and soil throughout the world.

Health risks

Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer for non-smokers — about 21,000 people die from it each year. The risk for lung cancer increases with higher levels of radon and longer periods of exposure.

Radon in homes

Radon gas moves through the ground and enters homes through any opening that connects the living space to the soil. Common pathways are sump basins, cracks in concrete floors and walls, gaps around service pipes, construction joints, and crawl spaces.

Testing is the ONLY way to know your levels

While this map can give an estimate for risk based on tests of other homes and geologic location, testing is the only way to know your specific levels. Radon can vary greatly between two neighboring houses. Fortunately, radon testing is straightforward and relatively inexpensive.

Our Signature Method

How a Hunter's House radon test works.

01

Schedule a Test

You can schedule a test by calling or providing your email in our contact form. We will follow up with you within 2 hours to get additional house information and an exact date/time. We will also provide you with the Minnesota Department of Health Radon Non-Interference Agreement for you to review and sign (it has a few steps to take in the 12 hours ahead of test placement).

02

Test Placement

We will place the device in the lowest livable (lived in) section of your home (this is normally the basement), but it could also be above the crawlspace or slab depending on your foundation type. These devices are set on tripods and asked to not be moved or interfered with.

03

Test Retrieval & Results

Minnesota Department of Health standards require a CRM test to run for 52 hours (48 hours for the test & a 4-hour delayed start). When we place the test, we will schedule the retrieval time. When we arrive we will connect to the device(s) and provide you with the initial results. Once connected to my desktop, I will provide you with a full PDF report breaking down the radon level, with more detail on our recommendation based on Minnesota Department of Health and EPA guidelines.

Questions

Radon, answered.

Radon is a colorless, odorless radioactive gas that seeps up from soil and collects in homes — especially homes with finished basements, which describes most of Minnesota. It is the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers, and the only way to know your level is to test.

We use a highly-accurate, professional continuous radon monitor (CRM) deployed by a certified specialist, with hourly readings and drift detection. We also provide instant results — no need to mail into a lab and wait. You also get a personal walkthrough of what your number means and next-step recommendations based on Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) guidelines.

We follow the Minnesota Department of Health guidelines, and our tests are 52 hours long (48 hours of radon testing + a 4-hour onset delay for proper device calibration).

Our tests are a flat fee of $150. We are an independent testing company, not associated with any mitigation company, and certified by the Minnesota Department of Health. We stay focused on accurate results and recommendations based on our state's latest research and regulations.

About Hunter

A certified specialist, providing independent testing.

I am Hunter Babcock, a CRMS-certified radon measurement specialist by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), based in Minneapolis, MN with my wife, Lauren, and our golden puppy, Breck!

Hunter's House Radon is the focused radon vertical of Hunter's House, Minnesota's premium home environmental health assessment service. I started it because I have had two family members and friends who have been diagnosed with lung cancer due to exposure to high radon levels in their living environment.

I bring lab-grade continuous monitors, run the test myself, and deliver results in person with a recommendation for how to take action.

What Homeowners Say

Trusted across the Twin Cities.

“Hunter showed up well prepared and walked us through exactly what to expect before he even set up the test. He was kind, professional, and made the whole process feel easy. Highly recommend.”

Lauren
Minneapolis, MN

“Hunter took the time to explain what actually makes a radon test accurate, like closed-house conditions, where the monitor should sit, and how long it needs to run. He also helped us genuinely understand the health risk instead of just handing us a number. We left feeling informed.”

Monica
Saint Paul, MN

“Our levels came back high, and Hunter didn't just deliver the news and leave. He walked us through exactly what mitigation looks like, what it typically costs, and connected us with next steps. We had a plan within a week. That follow-through made all the difference.”

Kimberly
